In the current iteration of my role at SAHMRI, I've moved into a structure that allows me to "manage managers". I'm now thinking strategically around how we can take our information systems at SAHMRI to the next level, and allowing my team to improve the services that we deliver to our research and corporate service teams.As a member of the ICT Leadership Team, I have a shared responsibility for cyber security within the organisation, but with a particular focus on the software applications we run, both internally and externally.I am often involved in vendor selection for new capabilities, whether they be corporate applications or ones for specific researchers. I'm able to assist the business stakeholders with their requirements gathering, RFP construction, market analysis, and then guide them towards the optimal solution for the institute.Achievements• Led managed service provider outsourcing process for ICT infrastructure, including contract negotiations• Implemented new intranet and service desk systems

I led a team of a dozen developers, analysts and research software specialists in the Applications Team at SAHMRI. We endeavour to deliver world-class research and operational software support to our corporate services and research teams.My main tasks are around scoping new work, working on tricky problems and issues, and better-understanding how we can continue to meet the ever-evolving needs of the business.Equally (or perhaps more) importantly, I strive to build an excellent team culture of mutual respect and friendliness, where egos don't get in the way and the best idea always wins.Significant achievements:* Oversee software development activities across 6 people and three projects* Sole IT member of the procurement panel for the selection of the oncology information service and treatment planning service at the new Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research* Part of a team that selected a selective outsourcing provider. At SAHMRI I helped grow our software development capability from just me to five people. In doing so, I set our software development standards around coding style, review process, continuous integration & deployment and overall software development culture.My primary role was as the lead software development resource for the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR). I lead the software design and architecture process for a brand-new patient reported outcome measures (https://aoanjrrtrials.sahmri.com) and also oversaw the development for the existing registry portal (https://aoanjrr.sahmri.com) which primarily serves industry, regulators, surgeons and internal data entry/data management staff.Tasks included:• Design, implement, test and support new features• Provide technical advice and strategic direction towards a target future architecture and configuration baseline• Define software development road-map, and negotiate priorities and release time-frames with stakeholders• Provide designs and estimates for AOANJRR project proposals• Code reviewsAdditionally:• Development of identity management integration solution in order to synchronise data from the corporate HR Management System to other corporate business systems• Develop an integration capability between our online learning platform (Moodle) and our HR Management System so that training records are recorded correctly• Provide web development expertise for minor projects such as a custom survey application, email templates and Wi-Fi captive portal
