• Launched the three-year campaign in 2015 and raised 35 million of the $40 million goal for Building a Better Way Home capital campaign and construction project before his retirement, the 5th at the Quebec Street Shelter in Denver.• Opened Solutions – Cat Spay/Neuter Clinic, offering free spay/neuter surgeries for all Colorado cats.• Former president of the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA), was one of the first Certified Animal Welfare Administrators (CAWA) in the nation and, over the years, has served in advisory roles for numerous pet nutrition and animal health companies. • Spearheaded the creation of the Dumb Friends League Harmony Equine Center™ in 2012, a private, nonprofit rehabilitation and adoption facility for neglected and abused horses and other equines.• Acquired Colorado Humane Society & SPCA in 2008 where we assist 43 sheriffs in the state with cruelty cases. • Helped gain passage of bills to strengthen Colorado’s animal cruelty laws (1990, 2000); designate cats and dogs adopted from shelters as Colorado’s official state pets (2013); streamline the animal impound process through a “Cost of Care” bill (2012), stiffen penalties for persons convicted of repeated animal cruelty (2000); and implement standards of care for animals in pet facilities (1995).• Conceived and co-hosted the first national symposium on cats, bringing together stakeholders from veterinary medicine, pet-product industries, public relations, and animal care and control agencies to undertake a national initiative to improve the value of cats as pets. • Assisted in the development of a coalition of local animal groups—Metro Denver Shelter Alliance (2000)—to serve the ultimate goal of reducing the euthanasia of shelter animals. • Developed a behavior training program to help reduce the number of pets relinquished to shelters for behavior reasons through advice and education.
