About Bronagh Loughlin
I’m Bronagh, a sustainability and mental health journalist, harnessing the power of storytelling to raise awareness of some of the world’s greatest issues among your audience. My journey as a writer can be traced back to my childhood years when I used writing and reading as an escape from my mental health difficulties. I would work on short novels, essays, poems, and more to better cope with my emotions and find some peace in the darkness. Studying journalism allowed me to further explore my love of writing. I had my first column published in The Irish Times as a first-year student. Over the years, I continued writing for them, focusing on my experience of mentally ill health to empower others and assure them that they are not alone. During my degree, I completed modules like Investigative Journalism which made me realise I wanted to use my craft to help make the world a better place. This is why I specialise in mental health and sustainability, two areas that are very important to me but also require a significant amount of demystifying.I graduated in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It felt near impossible to secure full-time employment so with no delay, I started finding opportunities and building my own 9 to 5. The goal at first was to secure employment full-time but I found great joy in working with so many different clients from different walks of life and stages within their businesses. I worked in journalism throughout my entire degree and since I graduated. Since graduating, I was nominated for Headline’s Special Recognition Award for an individual who shares their experience of mental illness to destigmatise mental health and destroy harmful stereotypes. I've since pivoted back to full-time employment, working with the Institute of Sustainability Studies (ISS) to empower businesses to take their first steps on their sustainability journeys through the power of education. In addition to my work with ISS, I'm the Co-Founder of Purpose Content Studio, an Irish social enterprise that runs the Future Feature Programme, an educational initiative dedicated to changing the narrative on climate reporting. I'm also the Co-Editor of the Climate Journal and Profit With Purpose Magazine. I am a Sustainability Reporter at Utopia The Edit and a Lecturer with the Impact Writing Institute, an organisation that educates writers on journalists on how to use the power of storytelling for good.
