Wattle Blue is a disability support company specializing with children and younger adults living with disabilities within the Canberra community. During my time with the company, I have had many clients all having varied needs and in turn varied levels of care. I have received training in tracheostomy care as well as PEG feeder care. I have also learnt de-escalation and temperament regulation techniques for those living with mental disabilities and mental illnesses. With my newer clients I am moving towards a role of mental health support worker as well as delving into child protective services and my role as a mandatory reporter, as well as career. As part of my role, I provide direct care one-on-one with my clients to assist in their activities of daily living whilst also trying to maintain as much independence as possible.

Omni provides protective and personnel security awareness training. Based on a purpose-built facility I assisted as a role player in scenario-based training exercises. The client base is subject to a NDA. The training for this includes learning myself how to deal with dangerous high stress scenarios, as well as proper tools to deal with the aftermath of emotions as a group.

During my time at town center Vikings club (Tuggeranong), I have further developed my skills with customer interaction as well as my overall hospitality and responsible gambling skills. I am currently situated between the bar, the gaming floor, café, and the bistro, all of which bring their own challenges day to day. I have learnt the importance of safety in food handling as well as adapting to a different state’s laws and varied club regulations.

As part of my role at the Cooma Ex Services Club I developed my skills in hospitality, bar work and customer service. As part of my role at the club I have had to become adaptable to the various job categories it calls for. My role included reception, bistro, bar, and cellar duties. As part of my role as a receptionist, I learnt how to become the welcoming face of a company and cope with various personality types, as well as prepare other employees for upcoming events and bookings. Working at the RSL Club I has also developed my skills as a fast-paced bar tender dealing with constantly changing mass numbers. As my skills advanced in the bar I was offered to learn about the mechanisms within the cellar. This involved, invoices, ordering, beer line cleaning, restock and basic use of a forklift.

My role at birdsnest started as part of the nightshift team as well as the day dispatch team. My role as part of the night shift team was to process the clothes that have been returned by customers and prepare them for the next purchaser. As part of my role, I also get the online orders ready to be packed and sent out which involved collaborating the clothing items of each order. My time at birdsnest has been very rewarding, I have seen the company grow and had to keep adapting to the ever-changing costumer numbers and demand.

Within the first lockdown in Australia the Cooma Ex-Services Club shut due to restrictions, and despite birdsnest staying open, staff was cut dramatically to ensure everyone stayed safe, I was unfortunately told I would receive no shifts until restrictions lifted. Due to this I was not eligible for any disaster payments, so I started working at Woolworths Cooma. I initially started work in the deli learning health protocols, such as cleaning and dealing with blades. I was later moved to the registers as a lot of older employees were advised to stay home, at the registers I was taught how to count and close registers at the end of night, as well as empty self-serve machines. This was a very challenging time for me mentally as I had planned to travel overseas prior to the pandemic, as well as being isolated form my friends and family. This time taught me resilience and further developed my skills to deal with challenging customers aggravated by the restrictions and lockdowns.

The Fabric Salon in Cooma sells haberdashery, textiles, fabrics and various other sewing and textiles mediums. At my time at the fabric salon, I led the till, served costumers, gave advice on color schemes for various textiles projects and handled money. As it was my first job, I started as a very shy and reserved employee, yet being in the face of costumers from such a young age, it has led me to become a confident employee comfortable with any costumer personality or problem.
