Environment & Services is part of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies program and teaches sustainable building design principles and approaches. Throughout the semester the students engage with theoretical content and also develop an in depth analysis of a chosen sustainable building.

I worked with Kouame Kouassi, a student developer from UCT, to design and build a Sketchup plugin for modelling solar panels. It can be found in the Sketchup Warehouse by searching for "Solar Panel Modeller". The plugin allows you to draw solar panels with a pen tool directly onto building surfaces, or to model them as isolated objects. The power generated is automatically calculated with reference to geo-location, slope of the roof, and size of the panels.

School Of Architecture, Planning And Geomatics

I was a tutor for the second year Design and Theory Studio of the Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree. This involved guiding students in their design processes for the main buildings they’re working on. This semester the students designed sustainable rowhouses and a larger mixed-use building for the Fringe district, a creative hub east of Cape Town’s CBD.

I tutored a class of 16 students in the undergraduate design subject Morphological Mapping. I had a lively class of students with diverse approaches to learning and thoroughly enjoyed the process of facilitating discussions around academic concepts in order to help them to develop their assignments. At Olsson and Associates Architects I have worked on site and precinct studies to inform development, as well as detailed building envelope testing and analysis. My projects have been based in various suburbs in the Sydney Metropolitan Area, but notably in Parramatta and The Rocks Precinct.

At Jakupa, I was involved in conceptual design, design development, documentation and presentation work. My projects spanned the public and private sectors, including a historically sensitive building renovation, educational facility building design, and urban-frameworks for transportation hubs. I was also responsible for designing and building Jakupa's new website (which is pending publication).
