As Consulting Project Lead, I am responsible for business development and project management for a diverse range of client projects. I am particularly interested in sustainability in the agri-food sector, rural development, and innovative approaches to facilitation and stakeholder engagement. I also have a strong interest in the intersection between public and private research initiatives and how to effectively bridge academic knowledge with industry applications. The Synthesis Agri-Food Network team is committed to helping create a sustainable future for the agri-food sector and rural communities.Our team members are passionate about agriculture and food, sustainability, and rural and regional development. As these three areas of expertise are interconnected, we are uniquely positioned to provide both an in-depth and big-picture perspective.

In collaboration with colleagues at both the University of Guelph and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs, I managed a unique and interesting knowledge mobilization program. Included in this program was a 'knowledge translation and transfer' or KTT funding program which was aimed at getting science off the shelf and into the hands of people and organizations who need this information. As the manager for the Knowledge Mobilization program, I was responsible for the development, implementation, and management of this unique knowledge transfer funding program. This involved consulting with researchers, staying current with innovative KTT trends and best practices, and developing strong relationships with multiple stakeholders throughout the agri-food sector.

As a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Land Resource Science at the University of Guelph, my primary area of focus was the study of farmland loss in Ontario and policies for the preservation of prime farmland and viable agricultural systems.My second main area of interest was the equine industry in Ontario and I conducted two studies on the role of the equine sector in the Ontario agricultural landscape. Through this work, I developed partnerships with Equine Guelph, the Toronto Region Conservation Authority, OMAFRA, and others to develop and deliver a series of 'Healthy Lands for Healthy Horses".

As a sessional instructor, I was primarily involved in teaching at the undergraduate level in the Natural Resources Management degree program. I also taught critical inquiry at the graduate level and developed on-line courses for open learning education programs.

As one of the founding board members of the Ontario Farmland Trust, I worked with a group of dedicated volunteers and staff to develop the organization from an idea into a fully functioning not-for-profit organization. I developed my knowledge of board governance, human resources, and charitable initiatives through this volunteer activity.

As the University of Guelph representative on the A.D. Latornell Symposium steering committee, I brought the interests of the University to the table in terms of maintaining key roles for students in the organization of the symposium and a connection to science and research at the U of G that would help to contribute to an interesting and meaningful symposium program for professionals in the conservation field. I learned about collaborative relationships, event planning, and stakeholder engagement through this interesting experience.
