SunBee Circle is a pre-literacy program I founded for children, parents and educators. I use oral storytelling and puppetry to share wonderful stories with the kids. They create their own stories by free play, acting, drawing, and dance. I am deeply inspired by Waldorf literacy curriculum.I've taught SunBee Circle with Writers in the Schools and Young Audiences of Houston, at Beehive Preschool, Texas Children's Hospital, the Houston Public Library, and more.I love this work because of the way a small child's face lights up when they are making up stories of their own and sharing it in community with their friends and their parents. They see themselves as storytellers!

Tiny Turns is a unique treasure-trove: a stationery and card shop in Bow Market, a haven of small businesses in Somerville, Massachusetts. While I lived in Boston, I developed and wrote a newsletter with a high opening rate, engaged with customers, learned about the wonderful indie presses all over the country whose products we sold.I loved this job because I got to try new things like content writing and marketing, and how graphic art such as prints and cards can flourish in a small business.

I was a writer-in-residence for Writers in the Schools: during the course of the school year I served several schools in diverse parts of HISD. Primarily working with children who were learning to write, I used my own curriculum of puppets, oral stories, dramatic play, movement and dance, and art to engage students with creative storytelling of their own. I responded enthusiastically to children's work, and collaborated with them to make end of year anthologies.I loved this job because I got to work with amazing kids and make space in their school day for creativity. I also enjoyed working with the public school teachers and staff in HISD, as well as the incredible WITS team of other writers.
