Directed all new product development for an innovative and rapidly growing contract manufacturer of feature-rich cannula, catheters and other specialized medical tubing. Routinely drove up to 30 simultaneous projects for a diverse customer base with varying needs. Expert in deploying Avalon's unique polymer solution casting technologies to achieve complex features that were previously thought unattainable in a single piece construction. Provided customers with engineering services, test services, design support, prototyping, process development, validation parts and scale-up support as needed to ensure new products moved quickly from the customer's design requirements, specifications, or napkin sketch to a successful product launch. Pursued doctoral dissertation research while serving as laboratory engineer for surgical and microelectronics development projects. Modeled and analyzed intraocular retinal prosthesis mechanics using finite element analysis and validated parameters and results through experimental testing. Built prototypes and test apparatus, planned and executed experimental protocols in tissue mechanics, coordinated engineering and clinical team members, and arranged animal surgeries to support experimental goals. Used FEA results to guide next iteration design, shorten the development process, and minimize the risks of device-related tissue damage. Resulting product, the Argus II, has been FDA approved for treatment of retinitis pigmentosa and has been named one of CNN's 10: Inventions! and Time's 25 Best Innovations of the Year for 2013.

Investigated cryogen spray cooling parameters for laser treatment of microvascular lesions and developed laser handpieces for research use. Designed and constructed experimental apparatus, defined and executed testing protocols, managed Rapid Prototype Facility, directed student researchers, contributed to publications and patents.

Pursued self-designed research project abroad studying body/machine interactions in roller coaster design. Lived and worked abroad in Europe, India, Southeast Asia, Japan and South America.

Developed automated laser tissue welding system using computer-controlled mirrors for applications in battlefield medicine.
