As the Underwriting Manager, I work in close partnership with our General Manager and Sales & Development Manager to provide a first class service to our broker portfolio and acting as the primary liaison between our claims service and our security provider, AIG. I am responsible for ensuring that QUS accepts risks that meet our target risk appetite, are appropriately priced, underwritten and compliant with our delegated underwriting guidelines and delegations from our security providers. As one of the first staff to join the QUS team, I have witnessed the exceptional growth of QUS and acquired an extensive knowledge of strata insurance, associated legislation and understanding our brokers unique needs. As the Senior Underwriter in our Technical Underwriting team, I am responsible for underwriting complex strata risks for residential and commercial properties, insured for sums of $50Million and above. I work consultatively with our brokers to gather an understanding of their needs and prepare quotes and solutions for new business opportunities, renewals and policy maintenance. My focus is on providing our Australia wide broker distribution market with first class and unrivalled service – an approach which has resulted in the rapid and continuing growth of our residential and commercial strata portfolio. I am a self-motivated, high achiever who enjoys technical underwriting, problem solving, and building solid relationships with our brokers. As one of the first staff to join the QUS team, I have witnessed the exceptional growth of QUS and acquired an extensive knowledge of strata insurance, associated legislation and understanding our brokers unique needs. Ausure Insurance Brokers acquired AFM Insurance brokers in 2004. As a part of the AFM team, I collaborated with Underwriters regarding endorsements and renewals of existing policies and contributed to the significant growth of the team portfolio, renewal retention and overall income targets, by focusing on service provision and building relationships. I was responsible for processing all transactions and producing documentation within company agreed turnaround times, using Broker Plus (computing system). Working as a broker, dealing with underwriters has provided me with valuable insight into the unique position of the broker and their intermediary role in the insurance acquisition process. I left this position to join the QUS team as a Development Underwriter.

Taking a ‘gap year’ to travel to the world was a wonderful and valuable experience. I met new people, saw new sights, enjoyed new taste sensations and solidified myself as an independent, worldly traveller with a knack for negotiation.During this time, I was based in the UK for the majority of my time and worked for 5 months in a temporary Accounts Assistant role at the new Westfield Shopping town development at Shepherds Bush, London. I was responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable and maintaining accurate records.Upon returning to Australia, I also worked for the Commonwealth Bank in Mortgage services for two months in a diverse administration role, whilst seeking a role within the insurance industry.
