Responsible for coordinating the school transition for German ex-pat students from pre-assignment to repatriation

Responsible for the educational and socio-emotional well being of students in grades 5 - 8. Lead a talented team of middle school teachers in their work within the classroom aimed at high levels of student engagement.Cultivated a robust student life program, including developing a thriving "house" program which created a sense of belonging, healthy competition, joyful play, and school spirit.Established an integral student portfolio and student-led conference experience.Developed a model for technology infused throughout the disciplines in meaningful ways, constantly considering that the best tool for the task may be an unplugged one.Crafted teacher and student schedules that met the shifting needs of the school from year to year. Taught AP Literature and Composition, AP Language and Composition, English 10, and Yearbook.

I taught all areas of 7th grade Language Arts class. My class was literature driven, with units centered around The Giver, The Outsiders, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Anne Frank, modern dystopian novels, and a selection of YA world literature. In addition to exploring themes from these literary works, students also engaged in writing through critical essays, personal narratives modeling a This I Believe essay, writing poems of social commentary, and creating fictitious towns with their class mates.Outside of my Language Arts responsibilities, I created a paperless classroom and led the school in technology integration across grades 7 -12, focusing on the Apple iPad. I also served as a committee member for the K-12 Character and Ethics Initiative, working with faculty and students in assessing school culture and coordinating school-wide and division-specific activities around the core values. Additionally, I served as the faculty advisor to Connections, an after-school program providing activities to connect middle school and high school girls. Lastly, I worked with students to turn the middle school literary arts magazine into a digital quarterly publication.
