After attending Illinois State University for School Health Education with an Endorsement in Family and Consumer Science and several credits towards a Science endorsement, I student taught in a Health Education classroom in the Northwest Suburbs of Illinois. During my Fall 2019 student teaching experience, I was hired as a full-time teacher beginning Spring 2020. With three years of experience and a multitude of challenges adapting to standard teaching followed immediately by teaching with COVID-19 protocols, I have become flexible and resilient which has carried me to my continued role at St. Charles East High School as a Family and Consumer Science teacher. I have continued to progress in my time at East by completing my Master's degree in Health and Wellness Education and taking professional development courses within the district. I have provided additional learning opportunities for my students beyond the classroom via advising two leadership-based clubs including FCCLA and Interact. Additionally, I am a part of a team which creates and updates curriculum, instructional methods, and course offerings for the CTE department. I have also spent the past two years as a part of the SIP team, which assists in professional development education to fellow teachers on various topics of need based on student data and research within the district.My current goals are:1. Continue to take professional development courses within the district to stay up to date on current practices and research surrounding my content area and education as a whole.2. Seek additional opportunities for leadership within my building and community including researching a second Master's program in administration or related leadership.3. Continue to develop my curriculum and instructional methods, as this should be a career-long process to always strive for improvement.
