Literacy Coach
During the day I used coaching skills to help kindergarten through 5th grade students who were below grade level reading. The goal by the end of the year was to get these students to grade level. Each day it was a careful balance of empathizing with the students' needs and using critical thinking, negotiating and mediation skills to get them to read. At times I could be working with a small group of student or one-on-one. Effectively managed time and caseloads based on several sessions per week. Schools are ever changing so I had to be adaptable at moment's notice. I had to be organized with taking care of paperwork and computer documents using excel, word and email. Within the year I had to plan daily lesson plans, design and participate in community service projects with the students. Volunteer at non-profits and conduct outreach presentations about AmeriCorps. During the year I am held responsible for conducting myself as a staff member within the elementary school.
