In 2023, I sold The Natural Lighting Company and took some time to decide what my new career path would be. After a sabbatical of about six months, my career passion become clear. I was going to be a Death Doula. Can’t you see the natural progression from construction to end of life care? No? I didn’t either, but here I am! The part of my construction company that I loved the most was talking with clients, listening to their concerns, figuring out their need for daylighting and offering a solution that worked for them. Being a Death Doula is about listening to clients, figuring out their concerns and needs and offering a solution that works for them. Working with clients is what I enjoy the most!After graduating from The University of New Mexico with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration, I began my career at Barraclough & Associates, P.C. where I specialized in auditing large financial institutions and government agencies. My experience at what was then the largest CPA firm in Northern New Mexico, perfectly positioned me for my role as Internal Auditor for the City of Albuquerque. For several years, I worked directly with the city, allowing me to fully grasp the best practices of auditing. Following my success as Internal Auditor, I broadened my skills in the realm of fraudulent auditing affairs by accepting the role as CPA Forensic Auditor for the State of New Mexico Office of the Attorney General. In this position, I analyzed financial records to detect Medicaid system abuse by healthcare companies against the state of New Mexico. While investigating fraudulent claims, I successfully handled many responsibilities, shedding light on my capability to one day run my own company.In 2010, I purchased The Natural Lighting Company and successfully transformed the organization from an under-performing business into a successful Solatube daylighting systems retailer. We were honored to integrate Solatube’s unique products into the daylighting designs and services we provided. Today, more than two million people have improved their homes with Solatube products, and millions more have enjoyed the benefits at department stores, schools, hotels, hospitals, grocery stores, offices, and athletic facilities. Partnering with such an innovative and eco-friendly company was an incredible opportunity, and I enjoyed revolutionizing homes in New Mexico with unparalleled daylighting devices.
