5 years ago, I couldn't have predicted that I would spend the second half of my career simply trying to talk people into getting a colonoscopy. But here we are. Let's start at the beginning... I started Brooks Bell Inc. when AOL was still 'the Internet' and A/B testing was about a decade ahead of its time. I ran it for 16 years and got to work with some of the most amazing brands in the nation. In 2011, I wanted to inspire more entrepreneurs to build things, so I co-founded Raleigh Founded, now the city's largest entrepreneur community. Today, I am focused on much harder issues: colon cancer prevention and health equity. I am working with some of the most impactful organizations in the world tackling these problems.I got stage 3 colon cancer at age 38 in 2019. Six months of surgery and high dose chemo followed. Fortunately, I caught it when my survival odds were still good. But, had I waited even 6 months longer for my colonoscopy, I might have had my odds plummet 10+ points. I also discovered that my situation is far more common than anyone realizes, and that colon cancer is one of the only major cancers that can be proactively prevented. I am dedicated to making sure I do everything in my power to empower others to avoid going through what I did. (Hint: One in 3 people already have pre-cancerous polyps by age 45 lurking in their gut. Get your colonoscopy as early as possible!)
