I provide direct service and support to students through academic and career planning, learning strategy support, graduation planning, and monitoring progress toward degree. I provide guidance and mentor students to optimize their experience and, in turn, improve student retention and success. I support the goals of Advising by providing support related to registration, assessment of learning, academic success and recovery, and by facilitating student engagement in academic and career planning activities.• Builds strong relationships with prospective and enrolled students using customized, proactive communications in a variety of modalities. • Knowledgeable and current regarding all programs and academic policies, providing students with information about USM and facilitating interactions between various USM offices on their behalf, as necessary. • Collaborates with other members of the Advising and Student Life teams and other university departments to propose and advocate for students in a holistic and comprehensive manner. • Advocates for and assists in the implementation of student academic services, including the administration of university and college academic policies, resolution of student academic problems, change of major requests, and course / University withdrawals and new student orientation.• Coordinates closely with other faculty and staff on campus to ensure students are provided comprehensive and well-coordinated enrollment and academic advising across both administrative and academic areas.• Member of and presenter for National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and the Maine Career Development Association (MCDA).• Certified to administer and interpret the MBTI, Clifton Strengths, and iStartStrong for personal, academic and career coaching.

COR101: Creative Learning Lab (fall 2015,-2017) - This learning community lab is focused on identity, culture and education. Residential students co-design the 1-credit experience to involve personal growth and creative experimentation using technology/memoir and collaboration.LAC188: Academic & Career Success (fall 2014-fall 2017) - I co-designed this course focusing on self, learning, and career exploration with emphasis on the critical role of personal decision making in identifying and pursuing strengths, interests, and areas for growth. Course activities include assessments of self/interest and explorations of academic life and career. Students have opportunities and tools to enhance control of their learning process as they are introduced to resources and support systems, maximizing the University experience and creating an intentional career path.HRD110: Choices, Changes & Careers (fall 2010-spring 2014) - Self and career exploration and the critical role of personal decision-making in identifying and pursuing fields of interest. Students learn to understand their own decision making process and the factors that influence that process.HON100: Thinking and Writing in Honors (fall 2008) - Foundational course in the Honors Program, preparing students to think, read, and write for other university courses via the essay both as a literary text and as a vehicle for reflection and self-exploration.ENG101: College Composition - University of Maine (fall 1997-spring 1999) - An introductory course in college writing in which students practice the ways in which writing and reading serve to expand, clarify, and order experience and knowledge. Particular attention is given to analytic and persuasive writing.
