At Welcome to Yorkshire (WTY), I was in charge of all WTY’s social media output including facebook, twitter, foursquare, flickr, blogging and instagram. Our facebook page has since grown over 750% and our twitter by 650% since I began running them. We also overtook Visit London in terms of strength of voice within 3 months of this being set as a 12 month target. WTY became the first tourism agency in Europe and the 5th worldwide to have a branded presence on foursquare where we are still one of the Top 100 most followed pages. This was achieved purely through my vision of how it could benefit tourism and through my negotiations with foursquare themselves in New York. Our work on foursquare was awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ at the inaugural Social Buzz Awards and shortlisted in the E-Consultancy Innovation Awards. Oversaw redevelopment of our ‘Destinations’ area which is the marquee area of the site ensuring it’s delivery on time and under budget whist making sure it placed WTY at the forefront of inspirational tourism marketing. The innovative photo sharing element of the Destinations Area which plotted Flickr group photos submitted by members of the public on to a branded Google Map was nominated for a Social Buzz Award. I edited the WTY blog including documenting a tour of Yorkshire which worked as inspirational content and was of major SEO benefit. Built and wrote the monthly WTY newsletter which went to c.100,000 people. Created the strategy, built and organised the 2011 WTY Christmas micro site including the interactive advent calendar which is the most visited WTY micro site yet and had over 67,000 competition entries over the advent period. Final campaign I lead on was the digital element of the Back le Bid campaign to bring the Tour de France to Yorkshire in 2014 where we got people to pledge their support online to us bringing the iconic race to Yorkshire.

I am spent a large part of my time editing and content managing the first ever magazine for young people hosted solely on Facebook and Bebo, called Blink Magazine.We showed that attitudinal and behavioural change is not brought about by limited campaigns so wanted to embed these messages in teen lifestyles. Boys media is extremely fragmented but social networks - in particular Facebook and Bebo - were the one medium that engaged boys and girls en masse every day, regardless of their background or interests. As a lifestyle site that contains general as well as specialist content i.e. gaming, music and sport, it fits in with teens daily activities and provides relevant content they can pass on to their peers that is of interest to them, stimulating discussion and debate within their peer groups. Alongside and embedded into the content are key messages and content provided by the Food Standards Agency which is supported by all of the young celebrities featured on the site.The site was incredibly successful and showed that the young people were showing intended behavioural change after just 4 months.Also whilst in this role, I worked with a number of leading brands including Vue Cinemas, Clas Ohlson, X-Factor, Kellogg's, Coca-Cola, Red Tractor, TenPin, Business Link, Young Person's Enterprise Forum and Tony Ferguson.
