As the Health and Safety Officer at Carters my primary role is maintaining the Health, Safety and Wellness of over 40 staff. Carters are part of the ACC Accredited Employer program and as part of this I managed the Audit in June. We passed with flying colours. I manage daily standups and organise all contractors that come on site. I have also taken a significant role in reducing risks including:- Reducing over stock in timber yard- Setting up simple mechanical gate systems to reduce falling (it can’t be opened unless the other is closed)- Working with team members to explain and get them on board with their own safety

As the HOD of Health and Safety on Film and Television sets I have gained a wealth of hazard identification and assessment experience. Almost every day the creative teams will want to do things that will make beautiful on-screen art and will invariably involve putting people and equipment at risk. My main role has been to facilitate the communication between departments and assist in coming up with “consequence mitigation” controls to safely produce the creative results.Pre-production planning, visiting locations and developing JSA’s to safely facilitate having a film crew on all locations safely.

Senior Assembly Technician- I have progressed through the ranks to be in charge of commissioning the completed craft. This role involves mechanical, electrical and hydraulic system commissioning, troubleshooting and completion. I was the Health and Safety representative for the team and in charge of the First Aid equipment for the entire factory. In addition I was involved in sea trialling craft, Boat Shows, container loading and anything in between. Completed LCP introduction to boatbuilding apprenticeship course.Health and Safety Rep – with a passion for keeping people safe in a busy environment where many things can happen. Monthly Meetings with the H&S team, consistently bringing H&S into conversations with colleagues, Input into weekly team meetings, input into random Toolbox meetings, monthly check in with every team member on an individual basis, private and confidential to make sure they feel safe, have all their PPE and if they have any concerns they would like to raise and if they have any nominations for the H&S employee of the month. I make sure every concern raised is taken seriously and resolved in a timely manner.

Assistant Manager and Production ManagerEvery trailer is a mini project in itself, many with slight variations and customisations. From the moment the sale is confirmed the project starts with sourcing any special-order parts, production scheduling, and planning for fitting the boat to the trailer, delivery or shipping. All the while maintaining communication with the client, suppliers and the workshop team. Some trailers were sent to The Cook Islands, boats to Fiji and Australia. My duties were many and varied, selling trailers and inflatable boats over the phone and face to face in the showroom. Setting up and manning various boat shows and Fieldays, Managing the production schedule in conjunction with customers bringing their boats in to be fitted onto their new trailers. Manufacturing trailers, fitting out and repairing inflatable boats and managing a team of up to 6 over the busy periods. Health & Safety – New employee inductions, consistently improving processes to make them safer and more efficient, ensuring all staff had correct PPE, monitoring and maintaining best practice around hazardous substances and noise control. Project managed the replacement of mooring lines after an oil spill in the harbour. Set up a 40 foot container and assembled a make shift, temporary rigging shop for 3 months. Damage assessment report completed, Estimated the materials needed for the project and created a timeline for completion. In conjunction with the cleanup crews I developed an action plan that delivered the most time efficient and cost-effective outcome for all the stakeholders in the marina. Results: hundreds of happy boat owners. Key responsibilities mostly revolved around the oil spill and filling in for the team when they were taking leave. I was in the process of being trained up on their booking systems and other administrative duties. Also, I operated the RIB assisting boats berthing and towing vessels to and from the hardstand. Maintenance duties included everything from changing lightbulbs to rebuilding pontoons after storms.

International Travel Consultant – Every booking is like mini project, starting with the normally tight budget of the clients, negotiating with wholesalers, airlines, tour operators, consular services, etc and squeezing as much value into the schedule as possible, and continually communicating and aligning all parties involved through the process. Last minute changes and assisting with issues and emergencies overseas was all in a days work. Management of my own business within a business, looking after complex and simple bookings with the same level of care and attention to detail. Relocation of Warehouse - we moved the warehouse from the north shore to Mt Wellington. Organised a small team to palletise a whole warehouse full of stock, transport by truck and re- stock in PLU order the new warehouse with around 8000 PLU’s worth several million dollars. Result: Fully functioning new facility, up and running well before the deadline. Special Clearance Sale event, Thousands of items of “dead” stock to be written off so we decided to get what we could for them. Co-ordinated with the 12 stores nationwide to have all the stock delivered to the sale location on time, Setup of the Pop-up shop, bulk emails out to client base with marketing info, and managed a team of 5 for the event. Result, hundreds of happy customers who got a “bargain” and a happy boss who recovered a large percentage of the write off. This is a unique job in the company as a general all round problem solver where I was involved in web order processing, warehouse assisting, boat-show management, merchandising, building display units, product testing, wholesale, retail sales assistant and special projects manager. This is a very varied role and I have gained experience in many different aspects of the business operations and I enjoyed the continuous growth and learning experience. My favourite project was managing our stand at the Boat-show, we set up a fully operational retail store for 4 days. I had a team of 19 staff and 4 independent suppliers on the stand. I managed the stock selection and logistics of getting it to and from the venue, set-up and break-down as well as liaising with show management and suppliers. Result: increased KPI’s across the board on previous year.
