This was a temporary consulting role focused on making systems improvement and streamlining operations. I was involved with best practice systems development and technical support in order to aid the the company to grow into it's potential in the organic food market.

I was responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the sugar mill processes and assisted with annual budget preparation and 5 year strategic planning. Monitoring intermediate and final product quality against specifications to minimize out-of-specification product and managing various interrelated processes (including solids handling, diffusion, evaporation, heat transfer, crystallization, packing and with minor experience in spray drying) ensuring that end product specifications and balanced efficiencies were always met. Managed on-site water treatment (20bar boiler, raw, potable, soft and cooling) processes as well as calibration and linearity of vehicle weighbridges, plant mass meters and scales. Handled basic human resources functions for employees in the team (6 direct, 134 total across 24 hour, 3-shift system), KPI and performance management of all reports as well as mentoring and development of key personnel. The outputs from the on-site testing laboratory are used to intimately advise the balance of processes in the main plants in a semi-inline way and the accuracy of these was considered critical to operations. Responsibility was assumed for the continued assurance of conducted test results through monitoring of product stream results and the compilation of actionable performance reports to feed back to the national industry body (SASA).
