Davis has over 30 years of experience in entrepreneurial management and technology market development. After graduation from Columbia Law School, he established the intellectual property practice at Orrick, then a major San Francisco law firm, now a global leader. Davis is a visionary leader with substantial experience and expertise in digital media, signal processing, and software development. Davis's extraordinary passion and capability for innovation resulted in notable accomplishments in creating and scaling successful businesses in dynamic and competitive markets. As the chairman and CEO of Digimarc, he led business model development and product strategy, transition from venture finance to public equity markets, and transformation into a global leader in automatic identification, serving diverse industries such as retail, media, and security. His inventions enhanced the ease of use, value, and security of many forms of media and data. He is known for fostering cultures of collaboration, creativity, and excellence among his teams and partners.Before joining Digimarc in 1997, Davis founded and served as president of TV Guide on Screen, a joint venture that developed the first generation of electronic program guides and navigational software for television. Prior to this, he was chairman and CEO of Activision, where he turned around the company from years of losses to profitability and growth and expanded its product lines to non-gaming software. In both these roles, he leveraged skills in venture finance, project management, law, and accounting, supporting an entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision. He completed a PhD in criminal justice in April 2024. His dissertation, entitled "Indecent Exposure and the Court as Custos Morum," is a seminal work on the courts as custodians of morals in America.
