I am Co-Founder and CEO of Public Square Analytics, a digital services firm with a mission to enable public officials to more easily and effectively engage online.In my research, teaching, and consulting I am focused on social applications of network analysis, machine learning, and data science. I am a currently a professor at Penn State, and hold joint appointments in the Department of Political Science and the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences. I was formerly an assistant professor of political science and computational social science at UMass Amherst.I have extensive experience organizing academic institutions at the intersection of social and data sciences. I was a founding member of the Computational Social Science Institute at UMass Amherst. I served as Associate Director of the Institute for Social Science Research at UMass. At Penn State, I have served as Director of the Dual-Title PhD program in Social Data Analytics, and have served as both Associate Director and Director of the Center for Social Data Analytics.I regularly take on shorter and longer-term consulting roles with government organizations, nonprofits, and private sector organizations. These experiences have varied from one-day data science workshops for government agencies up to an eight-month sabbatical position working with the Core Data Science team at Meta.
