CurrentI joined Partners Wealth Management in order to bring the freedom of a fully independent offering to bear on the fees and investment performance of my friends and clients. The first thing I ask all my clients is "how can we help?" I then work on the principal that we have two ears and one mouth and we should use them in those proportions. Too often have I sat with advisers who seem to think that quantity of words is more important than listening to and understanding what a client is trying to achieve, why and how have they got on with that so far. The second question is, given my knowledge of the industry and over 35 years' experience advising clients, "what would I do if I were in the exact same situation, had the same attitude to risk, concerns and objectives as the person I am talking to?" My principal challenge in following this profession is to explain complex legislation and inter-related factors like investment returns, interest rates, economic issues and political risks whilst trying to avoid a maelstrom of jargon. After all there is no shortage commentary and opinion out there, but sadly what is often lacking is clarity.
