About Bruce Handler

I am a founding partner in the firm of Schaeffer Venaglia Handler & Fitzsimmons, LLP ("SVHF"), and focus my practice on complex commercial disputes and corporate investigations, as well as day to day practical business advice in areas including employment, real estate, licensing and general contract matters.I have represented several clients involved in complex federal securities and RICO actions, as well as governmental investigations. I have successfully represented a broad range of clients in disputes involving commercial leases, professional malpractice, advertising, product diversion and gray market activities, construction, insurance agencies and copyright. I also have successfully argued before the New York Appellate Division for the expansion of the remedies available to public customers in securities arbitrations. I have successfully defended several employers against employee claims under federal and state discrimination laws, whistleblower laws and the Family and Medical Leave Act. I believe I have a deep understanding of the personal and economic dynamics of disputes that carry the potential for litigation and those that have reached the litigation stage. I appreciate the substantial expense and general stress incurred by clients in litigating these disputes to their bitter ends, and therefore I always attempt to assist my clients in exploring all reasonable approaches and outcomes that may best serve their interests -- be they settlement, alternative dispute resolution or, where necessary, aggressive result-driven litigation measures. In addition to my advocacy work, I am a certified mediator with the New York Peace Institute.I am admitted to practice in the State of New York, the United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. I am a member of the New York County Lawyers Association and the New York City Bar Association, and am a member of the City Bar Association Litigation Committee.
