Responsible for managing a professional staff of attorneys and support personnel for carrying out the world-wide patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret activities of Goodyear. These activities include obtaining, maintaining and enforcing the intellectual property rights of Goodyear and defending Goodyear against the intellectual property rights of others, as well as licensing such intellectual property rights.

Responsibilities included extensive patent application preparation and prosecution in both domestic and foreign practices; preparation of IP agreements including licenses and secrecy agreements; preparation of opinions (infringement, validity, and novelty); and management of outside counsel's activities including preparation and prosecution of patent applications and litigation. Filed and prosecuted to issuance in excess of 300 US patents. Areas of technology included pneumatic tires, power transmission belts, industrial hoses, conveyor belts, infared sensors, air springs, polydienes, styrene-butadiene rubbers, halobutyl rubber, silica, carbon black, compounding of rubber, amine and phnolic antidegradants, silane couplers, injection molding, hydrocarbon resins, metallic cords, emulsion polymerization of monomers, solution polymerization of monomers and sulfur olefin adducts.

Responsibilities included extensive preparation and prosecution in both domestic and foreign practices; preparation and negotiation of agreements including licenses, settlements, and secrecy agreements; interference practice; counseling of clients; preparation of opinions (infringement, validity, novelty); and patent litigation. Areas of technology included polyamides, polyesters, polyetherimides, polysulfones, polyolefins, polycarbonates, hydrocarbon processing (e.g. hydrogenation, esterification, hydroformylation and oxidation), conveyors, catheters and corrugating equipment.

Responsibilities included extensive preparation and prosecution in both domestic and foreign practice; and preparation of licenses, secrecy agreements and joint development agreements. Areas of technology included polyesters, polyolefins, polyurethanes, isoprene production and general organic chemistry including preparation of hydrocarbon feedstocks (e.g. ethylbenzene).
