About Bruce Young

Bruce has worked as a freelance environmental education consultant, educator, and volunteer for a variety of schools and organizations including the Rivanna Conservation Alliance, Greensboro Science Center, Tandem Friends School, and Free Union Country School. While at Free Union, Bruce developed and led a weekly environmental education class for the school’s Kindergarten and First Grade classes as well as Young Naturalist and Young Artist summer camps. Since 2019 they have been on the staff of the North American Association for Environmental Education supporting NAAEE's Affiliate Network, the largest network of environmental educators in the world with a focus on building capacity for environmental education, creating a more just, equitable, and inclusive field, advocacy for EE and fostering innovation in the field.Bruce has served on the board of the Virginia Association for Environmental Education in various capacities, including Conference Co-Chair, Communications & Outreach Chair, and Director at Large. He also helped develop and pilot Virginia’s Environmental Education Certification Program as an inaugural Virginia EE Certification Advisory Board member.When not working with environmental education groups, Bruce can be found following his second passion, musical theatre, performing on stage or as a costume designer with various theatre groups across the Mid-Atlantic region.
