I'm a fluent speaker of Spanish, which contributed enormously towards my First Class Degree in Modern Languages. This classification is a testament to my attention to detail. I'm also a fluent/native speaker of Portuguese and English, brought up in Brazil within an expat community. In addition, I've advanced command of German. I can speak it well but writing is a challenge.I've administrative skills acquired in my role as an Account Executive in charge of the Iberia and Latin America desk at Ellison Communications. I also had the role of Media Buyer, dealing with publications in Spain, Portugal and Latin America. I was solely responsible for the running of business, liaising with the Art Department to produce advertising copies, and the Finance Department for invoicing and payments. I was responsible for rates negotiations, and expanding business by exploring new markets and publications to work with.I'm an experienced translator working mainly with Portuguese and English and finally acquired an MA in Translation Studies from the University of Portsmouth while convalescing from a long period of illness. I had just finished my BA, during chemotherapy. As an individual living with HIV for 31 years, I've learned to be flexible, resilient and resourceful. This experience taught me the value of looking at things from a number of perspectives and the rewards of turning negative situations into positive outcomes. Thus, the of my Master's dissertation theme was the translation of medical research. To make my work easier, all translation source texts were papers on HIV research.I've a strong customer-focused work ethics acquired over fifteen years working in the London hospitality industry. Considering the uncertainties and oscillating health conditions I had to handle, this industry's flexibility suited me quite well. Though physically demanding, it was dynamic, fun and developed many transferable skills such as customer service, flexibility, multitasking, teamwork, taking initiative, leadership, accountancy, etc. Career progression, mortgage and pension were not my many concerns.After my studies, I worked in Lisbon as a Customer Advisor serving the German & English markets, occasionally helping with Portuguese and Spanish. On my return to the UK, I set up My UK Private Tours, where this varied experience came to good use.I've a strong passion for British History and historical places (check @myukprivatetour), and was turning a hobby into a business. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced me to close that. I've since started teaching English online.
