    Bruce McAllister is known primarily for his literary fiction, fantasy, and science fiction (which he's been publishing professionally since he was a teenager); non-fiction articles on popular science and writing craft; and his interdisciplinary consulting on scientific and scholarly books. He was born in 1946 in Baltimore, MD, to a peripatetic Navy family with an officer father who served with NATO during the Cold War and with an underdog-championing anthropologist/archaeologist mother whose specialties were Early Man and Native American culture. He has published three novels, HUMANITY PRIME, DREAM BABY, and THE VILLAGE SANG TO THE SEA. His short fiction has appeared in literary quarterlies, national magazines, original anthologies, "year's best" anthologies and college readers; and won awards from Glimmer Train magazine and the National Endowment for the Arts. His short fiction and essays have been finalists for the Hugo, Nebula, Locus, Shirley Jackson, Narrative, New Letters and other awards. His non-fiction articles on sports, popular science and writing have appeared in a variety of magazines and newspapers. He has served on juries for the Nebula, James Tiptree, Philip K.
