After studying Agriculture, I worked on and managed farms around the UK, mostly in Scotland and East Anglia. During my training I worked for one of the most influential farmers in the UK & Europe. In East Anglia I provided farm consultancy services. specialising in beef and sheep production. I also took the opportunity to work in the development, sales and training of computer systems for farm management. I also continued in practical farming looking after arable, sheep, dairy and suckler beef units in East Anglia, Oxfordshire and Scotland.Farmplan Computer Systems bought the software house I had worked for in East Anglia and they invited me to join them. I rose to the position of Product Development Manager sitting on the company management board. Farmplan was acquired by Reed Business Information during their drive to deliver their publications, particularly the popular Farmers Weekly magazine, online.I returned to Scotland and joined NFU Scotland taking up the newly created role of Membership Director. A challenging role securing the membership income and developing new revenue streams. Unfortunately not long after taking on the role I suffered a head injury which had a significant impact on my life. I eventually recovered fully. However I was not able to return to that role.While I was recovering I secured a position developing and running a turf installation service for a company growing and supplying turf. We secured contracts with housing developers, we won contracts renovating and enhancing golf courses, turfing and seeding sports pitches and the landscape of new schools in Central Scotland and Perthshire.I was invited to join Tilhill Forestry as a commercial landscape construction Contracts Manager in the North of Scotland where I delivered the landscaping on the new UHI Campus. When Tilhill decided to sell off the landscaping division, this gave me the opportunity to consider a new venture.I identified a niche between the local builders and people doing their own basic DIY work. Findlay Muir Ltd provides a wide variety of property maintenance and refurbishment services.I have also worked as a contract engineer in fibre optic broadband on the OpenReach network, installing fibre broadband into homes and businesses.I have been involved with community organisations including; sitting on the board of a local day care centre for elderly & vulnerable, renovating a village hall and I established a Men’s Shed in 2018.
