I worked along with a few interns at this start-up to build a Corporate Secretary Management web application. Working at a start-up has really challenged me in terms of having to possess the know-how of the entire operation, which was unlike my experience at larger companies where roles were more specialized. I furthered my expertise in the area of full-stack programming, using Node.js with Express for the backend, React.js for the frontend and AWS (Amazon Web Services) for deployment. One of the biggest challenges was identifying the right technologies to use. While we wanted a scalable solution, we did not want an overblown solution which would limit productivity and be too costly than was necessary.Over the course of the internship, I learnt to write code with maintainability, modularity as well as scalability in mind. This became especially crucial towards the end of the internship for the onboarding process for new interns as the code was easy to understand and interns could start contributing to the overall effort sooner.

Tasked with automating the Key-whitelisting process. (to allowother Autodesk services access to my team's service)Acquired and used knowledge in ContinuousIntegration tool Jenkins, Docker, Wiki Confiforms andalso created a Slack App in order to set up the aboveworkflow.Also learned to build a REST API using Python Flask topass translated strings and metadata to clients for thepurpose of localization.

Learnt to develop simple data visualizations in D3.js. Also furthered my understanding of HTML, CSS and Javascript as I helped to design simple interfaces for a cyber security web application.

Being enlisted under mandatory national service, I was given the unique opportunity of being posted to Brunei for a year to work as a Communications Center (COMCEN) operator. I handled SAF Jalan Aman Camp telephone communications, on top of daily administrative tasks. My job also included the planning and preparing for camp activities. (visitations by VIPs, Chinese New Year, Hari Raya etc) During this time I picked up Python as a programming language and wrote my first script to scrape newspaper websites for information and print them as Word documents. This helped to reduce me and my peers' monthly workload in helping our superior find any relevant military and diplomatic news in Brunei. Instead of manually clicking each website, copying and pasting them into Word documents to be saved in the right text format, the Python script simply did this automatically for all links saved to a text file.
