“While working in the design and construction of military, higher education and hospital buildings throughout the 1970s & 1980s, I could see how delivery of these buildings was getting worse, not better. The greater the complexity, the harder it was to deliver a functional building. I knew there had to be a better way. So, for the last 20 years, I’ve dedicated my career to commissioning, as a means of bridging the gap between design intent and final delivery. Fulfilling the dream of buildings that work like a charm in a cost-effective manner is where I find the greatest satisfaction.”

    I retired from Wood Harbinger Inc. in June of 2018 after a 44-year career where I worked in many areas of building, remolding and improving the building we spend our lives in today. In 1997 I started the Building Commissioning Group at my firm because I believed we needed a better way to deliver building to the owners and occupants. Today, I work with the Building Commissioning Association (BCxA) and ASHRAE to improve the Best Practices’ and Standards of the building commissioning industry. With the BCxA I tech classes on New Building and Existing Building Commissioning and Chair the Professional Development Committee where we produce 8 webinars and 12 Tech Talks per year. These webinars and Tech Talks are designed to provide best practice information to our members. I also represent the BCxA to ASHRAE where I am a member of SSPC 300 Committee which has over site of all commissioning related standards and guidelines. As a member of SSPC 300, I am working on updating Standard 202 and a few of the commissioning guidelines. We are also working on the new Standard 230 for Existing Building Commissioning.
