Lead research and innovation for product development and deep commercial engagements including a 4-year research engagement with Shell to significantly accelerate seismic imaging with generative AI.

Research and teaching primarily in Artificial Intelligence. Recipient of the National Science Foundation's Presidential Young Investigator Award and a Best Paper Award at the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence. Recognized for outstanding teaching with the President’s Associates’ Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas. Through classes, seminars and individual supervision, educated thousands of undergraduate students and hundreds of graduate students in computer science and Artificial Intelligence. Graduated 12 PhD’s into leadership positions in universities and companies.

Selected as Department Chair for two 4-year terms. Major accomplishments include construction of the $120M Gates-Dell Computer Science Complex; creation of the Texas Honors Program in Computer Science and Business; launch of Longhorn Startup for Entrepreneurship; and growth to 2000 undergraduate majors while offering one of the best educational programs in the nation.
