Prior to his retirement, Bruce was Senior Vice President, Small Molecule Drug Discovery and co-leader of Research for Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED). Prior to Genentech, Bruce served as Vice President of Chemistry at the Pfizer Global Research and Development, Ann Arbor Laboratories where he started his career in industry as a scientist at Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis.Bruce is the inventor of Lipitor®, for which he has received numerous awards, including the 2003 American Chemical Society Award for Creative Invention, the 2015 National Academy of Sciences Award for Chemistry in Service of Society, and the 2013 Perkin Medal, which is the highest award given to industrial chemists in the United States. Bruce has also been named one of the American Chemical Society Heroes in Chemistry and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of the American Chemical Society Medicinal Chemistry Division. Bruce received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Iowa State University and his B.S. in chemistry from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia, PA. He was also a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Rochester and served for over 10 years as an adjunct associate professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan.In 2018, Bruce founded his consulting company, ROTH PHARMA CONSULTING LLC. Bruce recently joined Frazier Life Sciences as a Senior Advisor and is on the Scientific Advisory Boards for Erasca, Inc. and Bolt Biotherapeutics.
