I have had a 30-year career working in oncology and cancer biology in both academia and industry, primarily in small molecular drug discovery and translational pharmacology. Following an academic teaching and research appointment for 5 years as Associate Professor at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, I joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1997 and have worked in basic and applied oncology and cancer biology research leading teams of research scientists in18 drug discovery programs. Throughout this biotech and biopharma industry career (Cephalon, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Champions Oncology, Incyte Pharmaceuticals, Prelude Therapeutics, and now ModifiBio), I have worked in positions of increasing responsibility and leadership in target-directed small molecule oncology drug discovery and translational pharmacology through early clinical development across numerous drug discovery programs spanning a variety of therapeutically relevant molecular targets, mechanisms of action, and signaling pathways. I have helped advance as a Project Leader more than a dozen novel chemical entities into the clinic and continued to support their progression through translational pharmacology supportive studies coordinated with my clinical and drug development colleagues. My career has involved multiple academic and industrial collaborations and extensive interactions with CROs to complete a broad spectrum of pharmacology translational supportive studies. To date, I have co-authored 100 publications, 62 scientific abstracts, and am a co-inventor on 9 patents. In addition, I serve as Editor in Chief for Current Protocols in Pharmacology, and Associate Editor for Current Opinions in Pharmacology (Cancer). These roles, although distinct from my formal career path, have and continue to, positively impact my work in cancer drug discovery and translational pharmacology, and have fostered numerous academic and industry collaborations that have impacted my work directly in a positive and constructive manner.
