National leader in the patient safety arena who has lead large quality collaboratives in California, Washington and Florida designed to accelerate the implementation of evidence-based practices. For over six years he was the Executive Director of the BEACON collaborative an association of 38 hospitals in the San Francisco Bay Area, committed to accelerating improvement in quality and patient safety through peer-to-peer learning and effective, reliable implementation of safe practices. During his time with BEACON it saved thousands of lives and reduced harm faster than normal dissemination through innovating partnerships between front-line staff, physicians and hospital leadership. Dr. Spurlock works with physicians and healthcare executives to create state-of-the-art clinical and operational management systems. He is the Chair of the CHART Board, a groundbreaking initiative of hospitals, purchasers, health plans and consumer groups to produce a voluntary hospital performance report in California. Currently Dr Spurlock is an Adjunct Associate Professor with Stanford University as well as a nationally known speaker on health care topics ranging from health care trends to redesigning specific operational units.
