Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network and application server hardware, network operating system software. Consult with managers and functional users to determine common requirements necessary to meet Information Technology (IT) business processes and needs. Plans, coordinates, and installs application software and hardware for operational and point-of-sale systems. Optimizes the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems and ensures availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of services. Runs tests to verify operability and functionality, analyzes hardware and software malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems, and recommends acquisition of programs or equipment which will resolve operational problems. Initiates corrective or preventative measures to rectify immediate problems and prevent future occurrences. Identifies and documents network requirements for specific needs and base-wide users. Interfaces, cooperates and works with base communication agencies in planning and developing new or additional network infrastructures capabilities. Coordinates efforts between network customers, system support personnel, and commercial vendors to identify and resolve network, software, and other system anomalies. Establishes methodology, and determines best techniques to penetrate computer systems and exploit information within these systems. Directs the team during actual assessments to find vulnerabilities due to improper configurations, missing or improperly applied patches, or procedural errors. Provides assistance to owners of assessed systems by providing recommendations pertaining to implementing security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities, to correct deficiencies discovered, and to apply new IT security concepts.
