About Bruce Adamson

I also have a profile on https://www.clearancejobs.com. I am not available until 2022.I enjoy system level design and achieving system efficiencies through effective and detailed engineering. I love solving problems and "winning" with a solution that satisfies multiple requirements. This is never easy, but I don't trust taking the easy way all the time, and I don't believe in cutting corners or taking "shortcuts". At the same time, i am all about automating repetitive tasks to improve efficiency. I strive to save tax-payer dollars by the use of open-source software in the place of proprietary software, where it makes sense to do so, and thoroughly enjoy using Linux in my work. I take great pride in my work, and enjoy having creative control over my projects. My objectives are to do work I love, and have it mean something and have value to others.

    Camp Foster, Okinawa, Japan
I manage DoN TRACKER, the US Navy task tracking tool based on Alfredo, for all of Marine Corps Installations - Pacific (MCIPAC), for account activity and troubleshooting, and managed task delegation for 2 years as well. I also provide IT support for exercises as needed, to include building SharePoint apps to enhance operational efficiency and record keeping. I manage the G-3 SharePoint site and subsites (more than a dozen), and have turned it from a plain, dry site to a very dynamic and user-friendly one, using InfoPath 2013 and SharePoint Designer 2013, as well as various bits of custom code I have worked in. I also use Remedy heavily to initiate account and workstation actions. For SharePoint, I am very comfortable with custom lists, color-coded calendars, Script Editor and Content Editor Web Parts, and the use of Calculated Columns to perform conditional cell coloring. I also have script code to color rows conditionally. For a relatively simple list with clearly-defined requirements, I can often build an InfoPath form (with embedded logic rules, online and offline forms), along with color-coded Views, in a few hours or less, with Workflows if any email notifications/reminders are needed. I am also comfortable with lookup tables, and use them where Choice columns would be burdensome, as well as linked export files. For SharePoint Designer, I mostly use it to either customize a master page or to create Workflows (2010 and 2013), and am comfortable using Impersonation and App Step for flows that need elevated permissions, REST calls, Dictionaries and Loops. I have made simple state machines by calling 2010 workflows from within a long-running 2013 workflow "wrapper" to periodically check on the condition of one or more columns in the list.I also use Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) for account information, and Teams for troubleshooting and collaboration (a lot is in support of SharePoint for other units).

Defense Research Engineering Network (Dren) Network Engineeer
U.S Army Cecom Isec Mission Engineering Directorate, Fort Hucahuca, Az Apr 2015 - Feb 2017
    Fort Huachuca, Az
I provide systems design and consultation support of the local network infrastructure, which I designed and implemented. I manage IP address space utilization, network security, and services deployment. I also manage network services such as DNS, DHCP, SYSLOG, and file storage and backup. I primarily manage Linux servers (currently using Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS) in a headless configuration, via ssh tools. I am the primary administrator on the enclave firewall, and manage the web proxy which sits below it as a child proxy caching server. Any technical requirements come through me for resolution. I also assist in policy creation and in security posture documentation and accreditation using current accreditation tools (such as DIACAP and now RMF). My expertise is in Linux operating systems, specifically Ubuntu, but I am also comfortable in Red Hat-based systems. I am most comfortable in the command line and have no GUI (Graphical User Environment, i.e. desktop manager) installed on the Linux servers I have built. I am also very comfortable at the Cisco command line.I currently possess the requisite DoD baseline and computing environment certifications, and am on appointment orders for IAT Level-2 for the CECOM ISEC DREN network enclave at Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Employed open-source software extensively to save money and build a Linux skill set. Built a Icinga (Nagios fork)/Cacti network management virtual machine (VM), syslog VMs, MySQL databases, and a Wordpress blog server, as well as an Ubuntu update mirror VM for local centralized updating of servers. Also built three Bind DNS servers to support the lab infrastructure. Built a PXE/TFTP/DHCP server for use in bootstrapping VMware ESXi servers. Utilized VMware Powershell scripts to autoconfigure VMs, networking, and storage. Built NFS servers to support shared storage. Currently building a GlusterFS shared storage cluster and an OpenStack cluster to explore OpenStack as an alternative to VMware vSphere.
  • U.S. Army Medical Activity Japan
    Chief Information Officer
U.S. Army Medical Activity Japan Sep 2003 - Apr 2008
    Camp Zama, Japan
As the CIO of USAMEDDAC-J, I oversaw and supervised a team of eight subordinates, managing network operations for the base medical, dental, veterinary, and health safety (CHPPM-PAC) organizations, roughly 350 users with one remote location. I implemented desktop upgrades, experimented with zero-client software (open-source), and employed VMware ESX for virtualization on blade servers. I also built a WAMP (Windows-Apache-MySQL-PHP) intranet server based on Post-Nuke.
  • U.S Army Cecom Isec Technology Integration Center
    Senior Network Engineer
U.S Army Cecom Isec Technology Integration Center Mar 1999 - Sep 2003
    Fort Huachuca, Az
I oversaw a team of up to 12 IT technicians, and ran all network operations for Headquarters ISEC (Information Systems Engineering Command). This spanned 5 buildings and supported roughly 700 users. I upgraded the network from ATM to Gigabit Ethernet (the first on Fort Huachuca), and installed one of the first Storage Area Networks (SAN) in base as well. Under me, the Network Team was frequently tasked to provide engineering expertise in a consulting role for other Army bases, such as Fort Monmouth, Fort McPherson, and Fort Bragg.
