Senior Creative Director / User ExperienceVivint Jun 2014 - Oct 2015Provo, Ut, UsBuilt a brand new team of (8) rockstar UX creatives and practitioners from scratch for the newly minted Vivint Innovation Center. Tasked to transition a traditional “push” model product (door-to-door sales) to a more marketable and modern “pull” model (a highly sought-after mass consumer retail product). Accountabilities have included directing, producing and executing all world-class user experiences for the new generation of Vivint home automation products and accompanying industrial design (visual brand language) that delight the consumer. Love conducting guerrilla user testing using my own wife and children as (involuntary but dedicated) subjects of automation beta tests in our own home. -
Executive Creative DirectorGlasses.Com Mar 2011 - Jun 2014Draper, Utah, UsAssigned to build the Glasses.com brand from scratch. Directed, produced and executed all user experiences, integrated marketing campaign, and visual communication across each consumer touch-point. The challenge from the outset was building distinctive web and mobile experiences that simplified the purchase of eyeglasses and sunglasses from an online player. First, the initial website featured a recommendation engine to curate product to a unique consumer, and an in-home try-on program was introduced to much success. Next, the eyewear world then took notice as glasses.com for iPad app was launched. Two years in the making, this disruptive app provided an on-the-fly virtual rendering of glasses upon the face of the consumer. The New York Times, USA Today, Mashable and many others wrote glowing articles on how the product changed the face of retail. The application won the 2014 Communication Arts Interactive Annual, was featured the main stage at TED—and later that year was awarded a Cannes Lion in the Cannes International Festival of Creativity (among 70,000 entries from 92 countries). I am the current owner of 20+ killer pair of eyeglasses and growing fast. -
Executive Creative Director1-800 Contacts Jul 1998 - Jun 2014Draper, Utah, UsA small idea from a fellow student coming out of the dorms at college, I was approached to provide some initial design collateral for a few bucks (and a pizza). Next, a simple presentation deck. Then, I was asked, “do you know how to do TV spots?” I replied, “well, of course”. Then a one-page barely dynamic website—followed by a full-time offer to become *the* creative department. What came the next decade plus was not taught in school.A $1B+ nationally recognized brand was born. An unrelenting quest was initiated to build a product that removed friction from an industry littered with opportunities and obstacles. Obsessive user experiences, award-winning digital tools, and a reputation for customer service accelerated an amazing rate of growth unheard of considering how young the company was. Built a creative team and managed (7) designers, copywriters, and producers and, when needed, directed external agencies for integrated campaign work. The results include a website that enjoys a sustained conversion rate of 24% (21% on tablet, and 11% on phone using optimized device technology), a remarkable 86% brand awareness, and a healthy 77 net promoter score. Fighter brands were organized to capture a higher percent of the market, Aquasoft (see above) was launched as a disruptive product to increase market share even further—and glasses.com (see above) was introduced to pioneer an eyewear industry as 1-800 CONTACTS had with contact lenses. I served as matrixed Executive Creative Director accountable for all touch-points and consumer experiences encompassing all above mentioned ventures. -
