About Bruce Cleveland

I have been a Silicon Valley CMO and CPO holding senior executive positions at Oracle, Apple, Siebel Systems and C3 AI. I have also been a General Partner in two venture capital firms. I was also a founder and CEO of a startup initially known as GreenFig and is now called Ziplines Education. My experience in business and technology include:◆ C3 AI - As CMO, I helped to engineer a new category - Enterprise AI - and established C3 AI as the category leader.◆ Siebel - Over 10 years, I led the marketing, alliances, & product divisions. During my time, Siebel grew from $4M to $2B annual revenue.◆ Apple - I led an engineering division where we developed multiple Apple software products.◆ Oracle - I joined Oracle when it was an early stage startup; I led the Unix product division. Some of my investment successes…◆ Marketo - First investor in Marketo, when it was just a concept. Served on its board for 7 years to the IPO. Acquired by Adobe for $4.75B.◆ C3 AI - A first investor in C3 AI. Asked by Tom Siebel to help form initial business plan. Served on Advisory Board for 4 years. IPO in 2020. ◆ Vlocity - Early investor. Provided input on Vlocity’s partner strategy. Recently acquired by Salesforce for $1.2B. ◆ Doximity - A first investor in Doximity, when it was just a concept. Served on its board for several years. IPO in 2021.Fun facts... ◆ Steve Jobs once tried to recruit me as CMO, when he was CEO at NeXT. I told him that NeXT already had the world’s greatest CMO...Steve, himself!◆ I learned to sail on the SF Bay with Larry Ellison - years before he and Oracle won the America’s Cup.◆ I sailed from San Francisco to the Panama Canal and into the Caribbean and lived on a sailboat for 2 years. Many life lessons learned.I wrote a best selling book titled, "Traversing the Traction Gap" that is now used in several university entrepreneurship programs. Praise for ‘Traversing the Traction Gap”:Ryan Greene ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The Missing Second Book in the Startup TrilogyMarch 14, 2019I started reading this book last weekend and could not put it down. I'm a startup founder... Traversing the Traction Gap was given to me by a potential investor, and it is like a professor giving you the study guide to a test. It is the missing second book I've been looking for in the trilogy of Lean Startup / Traction Gap / Blitzscaling
