About Dr. Bruce Peter Corrie

Dr. Bruce Corrie is an accomplished economist with contributions in several areas –higher education, community research, economic development, policy advocacy and as a trusted community leader. In higher education he served in many leadership roles - department chair, dean, & associate vice president, and served as mentor/evaluator of global business schools and programs. He was recognized as a “world famous scholar” by Minzu University in China. His research documenting the economic contributions of the ALANA (African Latino Asian and Native American) communities has been widely used for policy change, empowerment and program development (see www.empoweringstrategies.org). He received the economic education award for this work by the Governor's Commission on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.He has pioneered a strategy of economic development leveraging ALANA cultural assets to build Cultural Destinations – cultural spaces for wealth building and to enjoy cultures (see www.culturaldestinations.org). With the ALANA Brain Trust, a diverse and organic network, he has built capital and capacity in the ALANA communities. This policy advocacy and engagement helped create new legislative districts to better represent the $1.4 trillion ALANA economy in Minnesota. During a leave of absence, as Director of Planning and Economic Development in St. Paul he deepened economic inclusion while leading efforts in – business and economic development, mega projects, planning, and affordable housing. He has extensive experience as an administrator and leader - program development and evaluation, portfolio, grants and talent management, budgets, strategies on inclusion, and launching of innovative and creative programs. Weaving through all these activities is an intentional focus on ways to bring people together and implement Blue Ocean strategies that benefit all.He has shared his expertise with a wide range of audiences; local, national, and international media including as a columnist for the Pioneer Press and Minnesota Business Magazine; provided testimony at the legislature; and served on the boards of community organizations.Community recognitions include - SBA Small Business Advocate, Twin Cities International Citizen & the Immigrant Spirit Award. As Scoutmaster he supported 4 youth in their journey to Eagle.He has co-edited four books and published in both the academic journals and the popular press.He loves to experience cultural destinations and has traveled to 30 countries on six continents.
