Helped establish cultural destinations in various forms, cultural businesses, cultural districts, cultural real estate development, cultural corridors, cultural markets.During a leave of absence, served as both Director of Planning and Economic Development as well as Executive Director of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority at the City of Saint Paul. Responsible for business and economic development, mega projects like the Highland Bridge and Allianz Stadium, funding for community development projects such as the new Golden Thyme and other projects on Selby Avenue, Parkview Apartments in the Eastside, Habitat for Humanity, Ain Dah Jung and the new NDC building. Ensured the new comprehensive plan for the city was inclusive to all, established opportunity zones and worked to market Saint Paul to investors. Established and integrated Cultural Destination Areas into the city's economic development and marketing infrastructure.

Pioneer in developing "Cultural Destinations" spaces where one can experience diverse cultures through food, gifts, fashion etc and at the same time build wealth for the cultural entrepreneur. Launched during the Pandemic and building on earlier work as co-convenor of the multiethnic network, OneMN.org, worked to build capital and capacity in the diverse ethnic communities of Minnesota. Offered - The Minnesota Solution - strategies for long term economic growth of the ALANA communities in Minnesota. Policy recommendations integrated in the Minnesota Legislature in various policy proposals. Worked for greater political representation through joining a legal petition to the Judicial Panel of Redistricting where for the first time in Minnesota history, ALANA communities were part of the decision process for drawing new legislative districts. This work resulted in the most diverse legislature in Minnesota history. During the pandemic launched a capital network of banks and nonprofit lenders to ensure PPP loans reached the ALANA communities.The ALANA Brain Trust built on the previous decades long work of OneMN.org as well as the Asian Policy Roundtable, which in turn was inspired by Lucille's Kitchen hosted by Al McFarlane and others in North Minneapolis.

During a leave of absence I served in this role which involved leading in four core areas - planning, economic development, housing and administration and grant management. In each of these areas I focused on connecting the resources and programs of the city to all, especially those with the least access and achieved positive outcomes. I also helped launch a model of economic inclusion focused on Cultural Destination Areas where the cultural assets of people in low income areas facilitate wealth building and community place-making. I had a parallel role as Executive Director of the Housing and Redevelopment Authority which made critical economic and real estate development decisions and investments in the city.

The Midwest Comprehensive Center provides technical assistance to the state education agencies (SEAs) of Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin with a focus on building the capacity of the SEA to support districts and schools to ensure that all students graduate high school ready for college or a career. Technical assistance is tailored to each state's individual needs while also being aligned to the priorities of the U.S. Department of Education."
