Like yourself, I am horrified by the violence in Ukraine and the Middle East. The impact of these two humanitarian disasters have resulted in the critical need to build mental health infrastructures to address and meet the needs of diverse populations (children and adults), military personnel, emergency responders, and refugees. It will take many years to achieve reconstruction. Please do what you can, be it donations of money, supplies, or sending comforting supportive messages. Donations should be under the auspices of the many legitimate organizations that can be found on the internet. In 2018, a Fulbright grant enabled me to teach at Ukraine's National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy School of Social Work. Placement included additional opportunities in 7 Ukrainian cities; lecturing; training; consultations; and providing direct services. If interested in my working in an institution (academic or community service) in your country, with my salary paid by the U.S. State Department, please contact me. I have 34 years' experience in the field of disaster mental health/emergency response & more than 50 years' experience in crisis intervention. I develop, evaluate, teach, and publish writings about disaster mental health practices and national emergency behavioral health systems in U.S. and in Ukraine. In 2013, I retired from U.S. National Center for PTSD (1989-2013), continuing to support global efforts to treat PTSD and train allied mental health professionals and graduate students. Areas of Expertise: (1) Teach practitioners & administrators about: a) emergency behavioral health services based on evidence-based practices & field experience; b) how to use conversational language to assess risk factors for adverse reactions to trauma; c) how to deliver pragmatic-oriented services.(2) Develop disaster mental health operational & clinical guidelines, policies, national and community field training exercises, workshops, online courses, and phone apps. Sole author & principal developer of clinical framework for adult Psychological First Aid authoring 6 drafts using a framework of "Who What, When, and Where". Work turned over to committee of 25 academics & published as PFA Field Operations Guide.
