About Bruce Iverson
I am a professional mechanical engineer with several years of experience working in research and development of robotic systems and custom automation machinery for start up companies. For the past few years, I've been helping OnePointOne develop cutting edge automated indoor agriculture facilities. Working at these small companies has allowed me to gain a diverse skill set that spans the integration of hardware software and electronics systems. While I received both my B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering, I've especially enjoyed learning more about software, machine learning and data analytics. My passion for engineering stems from exercising creativity and nuanced insights of the physical world to create innovative solutions.I tend to be detail oriented and self motivated. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, being outdoors, cooking, reading, and the occasional personal project.
Listed skills include Solidworks, Microsoft Excel, Autocad, Customer Service, and 17 others.

Prototype Engineer
Current
Robotics/Automation Engineer Ii
During the entire course of this role at OnePointOne, I worked on a single project: the AutoSeeder, an custom automation machine made to match OPO's proprietary agriculture hardware and strict requirement needs. The core functionality of the machine is to plant individual seeds of a wide range of cultivars into custom growing hardware in a vertical orientation. During the course of this work, some responsibilities and notable achievements are:- Designed active and passive mechanisms, validating design by implementing test plans for automated reliability quantification of mechatronic systems with Python software for cycling hardware, telemetry monitoring for failure detection, data collection and statistical analysis of mechanism performance.- Met UL safety standards through a detailed review process of documentation, inspection, and field testing resulting in all three units receiving UL field labels. Longest running machine has been operating for 2+ years.- Communicated project status, costs, and timelines with management. Ensured that our team focused on highest priority KPIs while delegating engineering work and production work amongst team members and technicians.- Wrote and maintained Python software for “Autoseeder” machine including REST API for integrating commands and telemetry with farm control and automation software, handling multiple FLIR camera video streams in subprocesses with OpenCV video processing, and state machine for mechanism and subsystem coordination.
Mechanical Engineer I
I began my job at OnePointOne as a systems technician, building and maintaining structures and fluidics systems for prototype indoor agriculture facilities. After 6 months, I became the project owner for a horizontal flood and drain grow system built into pallet racking. I designed and over saw the build of the fluidics and structures of this project, as well as assisting with some electrical work. I collaborated with plant scientists to derive requirements and define design specifications for the system, and with engineers to integrate controls, telemetry, environmental systems, and LED lighting for plants. In the design, I modeled the fluidics mathematically and the structures in CAD. After an initial small scale prototype used to validate the fluidics models, we built 3 full scale functional prototype with 18 stacked levels of grow space. We used this system to fulfill orders of basil to three star Michelin chef David Kinch for over a year at his restaurant Mentone. We were able to control the system to such a degree as to match authentic Italian environmental conditions. “...the wonderful Genovese Basil they have been growing for us at Mentone for our Pesto, essentially our Spirit Animal here at Mentone” -David Kinch.
Mechatronics Engineer
Over my time at Delucchi, I collaborated closely with a team of electrical and computer engineers on design and prototyping robotic products, working sometimes full time and sometimes part time as I completed my master's degree. Delucchi Electric had a number of ideas for industrial for onsite and prefabrication construction applications which we created prototypes for. Some of my responsibilities and accomplishments include the following:- Developed C++ control firmware for differential drive robot with mounted 4 DoF robot arm with custom gripper. Firmware followed given B-Spline parametric curves and handled forward/inverse kinematics for arm control.- Designed all mechanics for an omni wheel spray painting robot for floor marking and delivering functional prototype.- Designed and prototyped automated machinery for measuring, cutting, coiling and packaging metal clad cable for electrical prefab demonstrating >2x production efficiency. Development included C++ firmware for telemetry control and coordination of various sensors and motors of prior machines.
