The FAA’s Research, Engineering and Development (R,E&D) Advisory Committee (REDAC), was established by Congress under the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology in 1989. It advises the FAA on research and development issues. The committee considers aviation research needs in air traffic services, airport technology, aircraft safety, aviation security, human factors, and environment and energy. A maximum of 30 members may represent corporations, universities, associations, consumers and government agencies on the REDAC.

Support the VA Department of Aviation in advancing VA airport operating capabilities for FAR Part 135 and 91 (business and general aviation) operators. Currently (2024) refocusing efforts in support of both the VA Advanced Air Mobility Alliance (VAAMA), and STEM education across the Commonwealth. Past successes include working with the FAA to provide GNSS Instrument Approach Procedures and Airport Weather Observing Stations (AWOS-3) on the FAA NADIN network for all 65 public-use airports in the Commonwealth, enabling enhanced business aviation IFR operations across Virginia. VSATS also funded the acquisition of an ICON A5 Light Sport Amphibian aircraft and trailer, to carry the STEM-Aviation message to Virginia's schools. The program won accolades from the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) for its impact on education.
