The Chara Project is a nonprofit organization with a mission of helping women find joy in the Bible. Chara (pronounced khar-ah) is the Greek word for JOY and the organization lives out its joy-focused mission by empowering women to learn how to explore and understand the Bible more clearly through Biblically-based resources, events, and mentors.

Provide executive mentorship to social entrepreneurs through the Global Social Benefit Institute (GSBI). Coaching includes intensive review and refinement of business plans, investor materials, operations, governance, and financials. Have worked with startups addressing problems such as human trafficking and refugee shelters.

Established, built, and matured the test engineering (QA) function in Dolby. Hired test engineers; coached and grew test managers/leaders; installed critical processes and tools. QA is now a pervasive and fundamental part of Dolby’s development life cycle across all product development areas.Led a “shared engineering” department which provided a variety of engineering functions including QA, Tech Pubs, Hardware CAD/Design, engineering infrastructure support, and company-wide engineering process improvement. These functions were fully deployed across all Dolby product areas including cinema, broadcast, and consumer devices.Built the engineering team for Dolby’s E-Media Business Group. This business group focused on providing audio technologies for internet-connected consumer devices including PC’s, tablets, smartphones, and DMA’s. Technology areas included audio processing and compression, VR, Windows, iOS and Android OS’s, mobile apps, and gaming. Doubled the organization's size in three years by growing teams in San Francisco, China, Australia, and Poland. Created a strong director-level management team. Installed agile development processes and lightweight, metrics-based project management methods. This team has become highly adaptable, agile, and effective as it made 100’s of software deliveries over four years representing about one third of Dolby’s revenue.

• Led teams working on improvement programs including the design, development and deployment of secure coding techniques and a security development lifecycle (SDL), a quality improvement effort to introduce multiple new test automation tools and techniques, and a program to drive compliance to key technology requirements for all Cisco products. • Acted as the single engineering point of contact for $100M+ telecom Service Provider accounts.• Managed a team of 100 test engineers responsible for software technologies. Shipped multiple high-revenue Cisco IOS releases.• Led an engineering team (HW and SW) responsible for a dozen products and shipped over $2B in product during my tenure. Built a strong, productive team that knew how to develop and deliver multiple products. Team grew from 200 to over 400 engineers on the U.S. East and West Coasts, Canada, Australia, and India. Managed the standardization of hardware, software, and DSP technology across the product line and devised new ways of running the organization through core and product teams. Motivated and encouraged the team toward innovation and invention. Partnered with marketing team to prepare product roadmaps and financial forecasts.• Built a team to do software maintenance and product testing (HW and SW) for dial and VoIP platforms and applications. Grew the team from 40 to 160 engineers across multiple locations and countries.

• Recruited to this startup to assist the company in transitioning from a custom software shop to a product oriented development organization. • Led teams that developed, tested, and supported GUI apps and C++ middleware for optical storage products on Mac and Windows PC’s. • Lots of hands-on effort to establish processes for development, project management, test, configuration management, quality assurance, and technical support.

• Built and managed a team of more than 20 test engineers who acceptance tested vendor products used in key, high revenue services like voice mail, broadband networks, and networked interactive video services.

• Reached Bells Labs highest level of technical staff by making significant contributions to the UNIX operating system, Software Reliability Engineering (SRE), computer performance analysis, and software development processes and metrics (including ISO-9000 and CMMI).• Managed the system test effort on several large product development projects (T1 multiplexer, PBX’s, switch adjuncts).
