Creating a scalable global network and infrastructure architecture to support RocketSpace in it's rapid global expansion. Mixing best of breed Cloud solutions including AWS and Azure with on premise virtualization technologies such as ESXi and Hyper-V to deliver robust platforms knitted together with carrier grade software defined networking and virtual network function provided by Tier 1 ISPs.

I designed and co-ordinated the building of Sportsbets essential disaster recovery site at our new data centre. Servicing multiple locations across the country my solution ensured our network, server infrastructure, storage and applications could seamlessly function in the event of catastrophe at our primary datacentre. As part of my role I supervised a small team of Sportsbet engineers and a larger team consisting of a number of different vendors, getting them to deliver on time and to scope.

Working as part of a cross-functional team in Product and Solutions Engineering I oversaw integration work for one of Telstra's core functions. On behalf of Telstra I managed 5 large global vendors through an RFP and selection process. I created detailed requirements and analysed the proposed solutions ensuring they met Telstra's need for scale, security and availability. Once selected I had a key delivery role working as part of the project team doing whatever it took to deliver the business outcome including ensuring infrastructure and network teams built out platforms and integration to spec. Telstra is Australia’s leading telecommunications company with over 40,000 staff across Asia Pacific.

I built up CPA's global communications and collaboration solution for their 20+ office network, including sites in China and Europe. Using a mix of solutions analysis, design and build skills I delivered a voice, video conferencing, collaboration, file sharing and contact center. I designed the solution to be secure, scaleable and support CPA's growing business.

Key Telstra technical cross domain engineering consultant working with various vendors and internal Telstra teams to successfully deliver a new site and massive capacity upgrade on Australia’s largest mobile data services platform with > 6 million customers. Responsible for design and implementation of capacity upgrades to Australia’s largest mobile data gateway platform. Architectural lead for server and application delivery controller and technical engineering subject matter expert for above. Covering broad variety of technical and organizational skills, storage, F5 ADC platform, Oracle Linux and Solaris servers. Key technical project contact for Telstra with tight timelines and aggressive build out schedules to ensure capacity ahead of exponential customer demand. Ensuring not only technical design leadership but also working on technical implementation to keep project delivering. My solutions were regularly recognised as being 'best in class', seen as pragmatic, smart and scaleable.

Contracted back to Lonely Planet to provide security consultancy in the areas of firewalls and application delivery controllers. This framework was used in preparation for the successful Lonelyplanet.com website re-launch. This involved the planning and then the technical hands on with F5, Juniper and Cisco Products.

Responsible for scheduling technical delivery of Nokia Maps releases into global Production environment. Achieved via coordination of multiple “virtual” technology teams to ensure business mandated release dates into production were met consistently and with high quality. Short term contract in Berlin.

Provided a secure, managed network service for Telstra's business customers for the Customer Management Infrastructure project. This involved a high degree of systems integration between authentication systems, network management systems and various customer premise network devices.

Helped Lonely Planets customers to enjoy fast page load times through creation of a robust, scaleable and secure infrastructure architecture. The architecture delivered the requirements around being operationally lean while still meeting the performance demanded by our Customer base. LonelyPlanet.com ranked 1,328 in Websites globally by Alexa.com.

Responsible for day to day line management of a diverse specialist cross domain technical team including Linux, Unix, Microsoft SQL, MySQL and Network skillsets, 7 staff in team. Ensured team delivered both ongoing project goals as well as high uptime on the heavily hit, highly popular Lonelyplanet.com website. Worked with the business to create Service Level Agreement’s around the Lonelyplanet.com website infrastructure. Ensured Global IT Operations team delivered on defined SLA’s. Additionally continued to fill technical capacity as Lonely Planet key Network Engineer. Key technical objectives achieved in this period included specifications and implementation of Juniper SSL VPN solution, Dark Fiber peering between Lonely Planet Melbourne office and local Data Center for Lonelyplanet.com and Juniper DX Application Load Balancing solution for Lonelyplanet.com.Engaged in various vendor management responsibilities in particular with key service providers Fujitsu, Verizon, and Supply Chain. Managed consultants and external vendors to ensure projects were delivered on time and within budget.

Key cross domain technical expert in migration of Lonelyplanet.com site from data center in San Francisco to another. Achieved successful low downtime migration project via physical relocation to San Francisco for one week. Project Managed WAN infrastructure upgrade project involving MPLS links between all 4 offices. Instrumental in technical feedback to Legal and SLA negotiations for Verizon optimal contract saving significant money and gaining LP a no cost dedicated Technical Account Manager at Verizon. Technical Infrastructure lead on multi-million dollar Lonely Planet Content Management System and Lonely Planet Images Website projects. Key Lonely Planet technical infrastructure integration contact (Project Enchilada) for multi-million dollar SAP implementation, ensured network was upgraded to support business defined non-functional requirements for SAP performance. Responsible for Lonely Planet Wide Area Network in 4 international locations. Responsible for Internet Security across 4 Lonely Planet offices (Paris, London, San Francisco and Melbourne). Created business case, acquired budget for and then implemented Footscray office Local Network upgrade, switched gigabit to each desktop to support future bandwidth requirements for publishing. Cross domain specialist on Redhat Linux Servers, Windows Servers and Dell EMC Storage. Technical expert on following network devices, Cisco Pix Firewall, Cisco ASA Firewall, Cisco IOS Routers, Cisco IOS Switches, F5 Local traffic manager and Juniper WX WAN Acceleration appliances.

One of two top level system engineers for the rapidly growing Lonely Planet. Implemented CallXpress unified messaging solution integrating Exchange, Fax and Voicemail. Mentored other system engineers. Implemented the ‘harder’ system install, upgrades and application server integrations. Proactively learnt Cisco IOS and Cisco PIX Firewall and took Network maintenance contract from 3rd party saving Lonely Planet considerable money. Responsible for Microsoft and Linux Servers, from a maintenance and growth perspective.

Quickly moved from Operations into a highly technical cross domain position in 3 year period at Australia’s largest single site employer with > 8,000 staff on roster. One of team of three technical analysts responsible for all aspects of Crown’s Enterprise IT infrastructure. Including Novell Netware, IBM AIX Unix, Microsoft NT Server 4.0, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, EMC SANs and 3COM Enterprise FDDI Network amongst others. 3rd level support for Operations teams. Migrated entire Casino Complex Exchange information store from Exchange 5.0 to Exchange 5.5.
