Product design and development for a new vehicle discovery platform bridging social media into the car buying process and syndicating out to sites such as WSJ.com. Selected base technology platform (Ruby on Rails) & led the initial insourced tech team to deliver an initial alpha release in just over 1 month, second alpha in just over 2 and private beta in month 3 integrated into MySpace (app and 23GB XML data feed), 2 outside vehicle data providers (over 12GB CSV/image feeds), and Amazon Web services (S3/SQS). Major additional integrations included: Facebook Connect, OpenID, Google and Omniture (analytics). Recruited and managed combined fulltime/insourced tech and product team to 140+ production releases with extreme partner uptime requirements using TDD/Agile process and fully automated QA/monitoring, including extensive hands-on RoR/JS dev work and mentorship.

I built the Systems Development Practice for Leonid - created a best-practices agile development organization, initiated and managed an outsourced development operation, and recruited & hired a Director of Software Development to take over and manage the team. With their Principal, I co-developed their strategic business, operational innovation and improvement plans.

Realigned strategy from a me-too social networking play to an industry innovator in video aggregation and viral marketing. Defined, developed, and launched an award-winning product from scratch in under 6 months, managing a combination of local and offshore teams. Viral growth achieved 1M+ views/mo in 1st month of (soft) launch on a platform scalability-tested to 75M+ views/mo.

Worked with cofounders (CEO/CTO) on a consulting basis to greenlight and fully implement a strategic data warehouse/OLAP project on top of their web data harvester with 600K+ records. Ongoing training of new team members for analysis and reporting needs, as well as technology strategy and innovation recommendations.

Drove recruiting, organization, and development of new team to rearchitect and migrate legacy Visual Basic client/server product to Java/J2EE platform. Responsible for 8 local direct reports (full time and contractors), plus 8 offshore developers. Led Agile product development process (product marketing, development, and quality assurance) bootstrapping and formalization efforts as company grew out of early startup phase. Created initial solution architecture and vision, pushing scope negotiations to maximize product functionality and value while dramatically shortening initial release development cycle. Responsible for team achievement of functional milestones for internal and customer releases and demos; daily team operations; and ongoing process analysis, innovation, and implementation of identified improvements. Developed technical knowledge development, collaboration, and sharing processes both within our team and throughout the organization.

Developed a Microsoft Word forms-based voice recognition tool integrated into Dragon Dictate for real estate inspection agents using Visual Basic for Applications.

Founding Tasks: Developed Aviri concept, software design, philosophies and principles, and strategic plan for a social networking-based enterprise software company. Recruited a total of 14 founding and early employees; attracted seed investment; developed compensation and financing models; created and evangelized technical vision for our platform and solution; filed a patent on our core technology. Generated Aviri’s vision, strategic direction and competitive positioning.Technical Tasks: Responsible for architecting, developing the core algorithms, user experience, and leading the development team to deliver Aviri’s initial J2EE-based product release & deployed to several thousand users. Tasks included: technology and system architecture & integration; platform and infrastructure evaluation, selection, and installation; user experience design and architecture; database evaluation, installation, tuning & schema development; software feature implementation and debugging.

Co-founded consulting organization including primary responsibility for lead generation, sales, and contract negotiation. Worked directly with several early stage startups as technology advisor, driving initial technical team development, as well as for rapid proof-of-concept and prototype deliveries. Projects included:- Complete Visual Basic/ASP-based implementation of web-based community radio broadcasting site- Overall system design and J2EE/XML-based middleware delivery for web-based music discovery site including design and implementation of a SOAP-class protocol predating the W3C SOAP standard. - Reworked JavaScript code, exceeding delivery and quality expectations while developing, debugging and testing existing code under severe time constraints in order to meet client's deadline.

Founding Tasks: Developed Anytune concept, business model, and strategic positioning for internet consumer music custom CD and digital distribution e-commerce site. Recruited and managed the founding team of 7 total members, developed and launched a unique content licensing program, including legal document drafting and revision. Created content management and revision, CD production, sales, and site QA processes.Technical Tasks: Created and rolled out the initial site built on a Linux/Perl platform, including evaluation, selection, and integration with a real-time credit-card processing system for e-commerce fulfillment. Also developed a web-based contact manager for artist and label tracking, and a customized shopping cart system to fulfill our unique business requirements.Business/Management Tasks: Attracted and negotiated seed financing, and evaluated & engaged outsourcing contractors and strategic partners.
