Starting a company at 27 with two children under two years old is a daunting task. Actually, my father believed in me more than I believed in myself. And 1982 wasn't the ideal time to start a business, either. The prime interest rate was over 18% and inflation was over 20%. But the people who said "you couldn't have picked a worse time to start a business" in 1983 were saying "you couldn't have picked a better time to start a business" in 1989 after TEA Group Incorporated was named to Inc. Magazine's list of "America's 500 Fastest Growing Companies."It's all a matter of perspective, isn't it?Challenges are what test our commitment to the ideals that matter most to us. After selling TEA in 1997, I went on to serve in my local church for six years, successfully complete a turnaround of a home architectural software company and worked with lots of truly generous people at the National Christian Foundation for almost ten years.M2B Ministries is a non-profit organization I started to help young people returning from The World Race, a program sponsored by Adventures in Missions out of Gainesville, Georgia. Working with thousands of Millennials, I learned how to gain their trust and collaborate on multiple projects. Many in the Boomer generation misunderstand and question whether the generations that came after them have the work ethic and moral compass to succeed. Bridging that leadership challenge is what I hope to do in the final quarter of my career.
