Bruno Augusto is the co-founding director of Arts & Above: A non-profit, interdisciplinary arts organization which creates and produces artistic expressions, and provides educational opportunities.As an art maker performer and educator his body of work is reflected in dance, music, poetry, and film. Bruno’s works have been presented in the Washington DC metropolitan area, New York City, and the Bay Area of San Francisco. Internationally his works have been presented in Cuba, Portugal, Germany, Angola, and Algeria. He is a professional dancer/performer with more than two decades of professional experience performing in Cuba, Angola, and the United States, while touring Africa, and Europe. His formal training includes classical ballet, Afro Cuban modern dance technique, and contemporary movement techniques, as well as acting, and music composition. Mr. Augusto holds a diploma from Escuela Nacional De Artes in Dance (Havana, Cuba) a B.F.A. from Towson University in dance performance (Maryland) and a M.F.A. from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University in dance and choreography (New York). As a dance teacher, “I structure my movement classes utilizing the knowledge in classical ballet and modern dance techniques as a base. I incorporate my experience of the Angolan and Afro-Cuban folklores, along with elements from Aikido, Tai-Chi, and Capoeira. I emphasize the training of the body, the conditioning of the mind, and the awareness of the soul." As a creator, “I make art that comes from within. I often pull from my personal experiences to extract the relevance of the work. Rather than an exercise, my work is an expression of how I understand my life. This is why I also like to call my works “analogies” since most of what I feel and think about is universal, and reflect my views.”As a choreographer, “since 2014 I have been interested in multi disciplinary artistic projects, performance art, and installations, often presenting in non conventional venues/ settings, and collaborating with my artistic partner and wife Kate Jordan. However, I keep busy with ensemble work in the various dance studios and schools where I have been teaching over the past eight years.” Musically, “I continue to expand by utilizing different techniques and approaches. In this digital era, I still manage to work with analog equipment, and sounds found in nature. I have a vast appreciation for minimalist music, as well as abstract electronic and ambiance music. I have been recording/ editing and producing for my own choreography and dance for the camera projects since 2000.”
