Responsible for the development and implementation of the Single Equality Scheme and action plan. I established and managed the Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Committee, which reported to the Trust Board. I also developed and delivered equality and diversity training, Equality Act Training, Disability Awareness training for staff, managers, executive and non-executive Board members. During this time I also had a 12-month secondment to the Department of Health to facilitate the Pacesetters Project across the East Midlands as well as managing my own local projects. This involved the management of numerous projects that targeted specific health inequalities and worked with the community and voluntary sector to develop solutions and care pathways. I also had line management for my own team and responsibility of the diversity budget. I led the work across the Black Country NHS organisations implementation of the Department of Health's Equality Delivery System. This involves the undertaking of a major organisational change management processes and systems, staff and community members training. I was also responsible for the delivery of the equality and diversity element of the Trust’s Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) course. I also led on a Black Country initiative to develop the implementation and training in order to deliver the NHS’s Equality Delivery System and have developed Training the Trainers handbook for other equality leads to follow, for staff to undertake their EDS grading and for Local Interests to carry out the assessments of the grading. In order to meet the requirements of the Equality Act in procurement and commissioning I developed an Equality Assurance Tool in order to ensure that the service being commissioned worked towards the General and Specific Duties.

Provided support and guidance to public, private and voluntary sector organisations on how to implement race-diversity into their strategic goals and objectives. Developed and delivered equality and diversity training to staff, managers and executive teams. Developed and delivered workshops on Community Engagement, Supplier Diversity, Recruitment/Retention of a diverse workforce and equality legislation.

Joined the RN in 1976 as a Marine Engineer and changed to Physical Trainer in 1988. During this time I had leadership and management responsibilities for the development of staff and recruits over a period of 18 years. I organised major sporting events and organised sporting competitions. I was also responsible for the development of training syllabuses, adventure training exercises and team and individual coaching. I worked abroad and travelled extensively.
