I graduated from Law school and became an entrepreneur. I spent more than a decade in the bovine genetic business, being a managing partner in a breeding company called Verdana Agropecuária, focusing the selection of sires of the main beef breeds in Brazil. Verdana is presently one of the main breeders of Angus and Nelore (Zebu) in Brazil, with properties in the state of São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul and a herd of over 5000 heads.Being deeply involved in the market and a massive consumer of reproductive tools I identified the opportunity of putting together a biotech center to provide services in reproductive techniques to local breeders in the dairy and beef chain. The project was funded by FINEP, a federal fund financing R&D and innovation, due to its impact in the Brazilian economy: Brazil is one of the most relevant beef producers in the world, having a herd of over 220 million heads and exporting more than U$ 5 billion worth in products yearly. Having a local company investing on solutions designed to local needs was vital and strategic. The company has a Market share of 15% of all frozen semen industrialized in Brazil and exports to most of Latin America and a few African and Asian countries. I was the CEO of Seleon from 2013 to 2018, the year I was invited to be the head of investments in a family office focused on Venture Capital investments in verticals such as Agtech/FoodTech and Animal Health.In 2016, I was invited to be on the board of the Brazilian Artificial Insemination Association, being appointed as Marketing Director. The entity represents the most relevant players in the Brazilian AI market and is responsible for monitoring the activity along with the Brazilian Department of Agriculture. Being head to head with the Directors of my main competitors discussing and developing a balanced ecosystem for our businesses also gave me a better understanding of the importance of an associative environment as well as the positive impact of a benchmark.In 2018 was elected by a prestigious sectorial magazine (Dinheiro Rural) one of the top 100 most influential characters in the Brazilian agri-business, due to my deep and relevant involvement with the livestock market in Brazil in its many layers.My former experience in the livestock industry as a breeder and as a service provider gave me a deep perspective of the food supply chain and the opportunities for Agtech investment in Brazil, one of the most vibrant grounds for this industry.
