Book Translator
Derek Sivers
Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil.
In June 2018, Derek Sivers announced that he would release new books and said on his email list that he was looking for translators for the project. As a fan of his projects and his writing, I applied for the position of English-Portuguese translator. After a few weeks of evaluation and selection, he decided I would be one of the translators he chose from the many he discarded. I did the negotiations, worked directly with him during this process, and helped translate one of the books he released. He secretly published the books on his private email list, and even before they were officially released to the public, in just six weeks, they sold $250,000. The best thing about this story is that Derek didn't do it for the money, so he donated the entire amount to charity. The donation was made to the Against Malaria Foundation, and it helped protect ~~25,000 people, prevented ~65,000 cases of malaria, and prevented ~125 deaths. It's gratifying to know that I made a small part of this project happen. Details can be found here: https://sive.rs/250k.
