Part of a two-engineer team responsible for implementing, monitoring, and upgrading the services necessary to ensure up-to-date injestion, end-to-end processing, and delivery of diagnostic data.This position is currently seeing an evolution from working on monolithic distributed databases driven by partial batch processing to customer-specific infrastructures with fully streamed data running on Kubernetes.Services- Create CI/CD flows to build, test, and deploy Dockerized services to an internal registry- Configure Kubernetes clusters for individual customers, leveraging the aformentioned Dockerized services- Installed, configured, and expanded dual compute and storage Hadoop clusters with a combined storage capacity of nearly 1PB- Contributed to the deployment of a 54-node Postgres-XL data warehouse- Upgrade aging team services such as gitlab, nagios, pentaho and jupyterlabProcessing- Monitor and maintain a Kafka clusters which handle nearly 2 billion records per day- Built a distributed, multi-threaded Protobuf-to-ORC 'SerDe' to generically convert tree-structured diagnostic data into database-friendly row-based records, which is 3x faster than the program it replaced- Create data flows with the Pentaho suite- Expand processing to include new diagnostic datatypes- Root cause and resolve processing issues, while adding monitoring where appropriate- Built a Spring Boot server to coordinate Carte servers which run processing jobs via a RESTful API- Debug unstable or leaky Java processesMonitoring- Design processes to automatically audit at each major step, to provide a clear trail through the processing- Build and utilize Prometheus and Grafana dashboards to monitor Kubernetes resource usage, Kafka, and Hadoop cluster services- Create Nagios plugins to check anything from job statuses to S3 backups
